A mixture of punk rock and hardcore music genres are the basis of the emo subculture. The term "emocore" derives from emotional hard-core and dates back to the mid of the Eighties. Founders of this music style added melodic features to their tunes. Sadness, love, sense of loneliness are usual topics of their songs. Thus, the emo style could be defined as rock with emotional lyric features. Yet, the definition of the emo style is still a matter for debate. Though the emo subculture was originally referred to as a music genre, nowadays it is referred not only to music, but also to behavior, clothes, style and the way of life. The emo style is known as unfashionable. This way emo representatives show that they are uninterested in social processes. Being outcasts, emos demonstrate their non-conformity to existing social rules and regulations through the emo style. Tight-fitting jeans and T-shirts, with printed names of popular emocore groups, Converse sneakers, brightly colored stockings, a wide choice of accessories, badges, bracelets characterise the image of an EMOtional youngster. Hairstyles also contribute to the emo fashion. Popular looks include long side-swept bangs, commonly covering one or both eyes. Straightened and dyed black hair is also an emo trend. Blue, red, pink or blond highlights are very trendy. Short choppy layers of hair are also typical. Occasionally this fashion has been characterized as a fad. At the outset of the 2000s, the emo fashion was associated with an immaculate look, but as the style spread to teenagers, it became darker, with long bangs and emphasis on the color black. Emo adherents are highly sensitive people. Psychologists consider them introverts who do not want to socialize with the world around. Instead, they show their standpoints by means of poetry. Poems they write are full of sorrow, nostalgia and desperation. Usually these emotions are characteristic of young people aged 12 - 18, when they are emotionally sensitive. For most emo representatives emoism becomes a way of life.
